#Ireland2023 – World Rugby Visit Builds Excitement For Bid

The World Rugby Technical Review Group visited Dublin for two days last week as part of the ongoing assessment of the #Ireland2023 bid to host the Rugby World Cup. Take a look back over the visit as excitement for Ireland’s bid builds.

The highlights of the two day visit included official meetings with President Michael D. Higgins and An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD as well as representatives from the governments both North and South. In addtiion there were a number of expert presentations over the two days on all aspects of Ireland’s bid and a chance to meet some of Ireland’s sporting icons.

Day 1 – Croke Park & Presidential Welcome

On arrival at Croke Park, the World Rugby group were greeted by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross TD as well as the Ireland 2023 Bid team, including Dick Spring, Philip Browne and Kevin Potts.

A series of presentations covered topics such as Tourism, Finance & Government, the Ticketing Strategy and potential Team Bases. The highlight of the day was a trip to Áras an Uachtaráin and an official welcome from the President.

Day 2 – Aviva Stadium & Government Visit

The presentations continued on day two as three Ireland captains, Rory Best, Niamh Briggs and Jack Kelly, welcomed the World Rugby team to the home of Irish Rugby.

Former Ireland international Hugo MacNeill spoke about how the Irish diaspora would play a huge role in making #Ireland2023 a success and in spreading the game around the world.

The visit culminated in a meeting with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD and the heads of the civil service from Northern Ireland the Republic of Ireland as all parties reinforced their commitment to Ireland’s bid.
