Henry To Take On Technical Advisor Role At Malone

In what has been a good week for Malone following their derby win over Queen’s University, Ulster and Ireland back rower Chris Henry has agreed to take on the role of technical advisor with the Cregagh Red Sox for next season.

Malone head coach Paddy Armstrong, whose side are currently on course to reach the Division 2A promotion play-offs, commented: “Chris has assisted in a number of training sessions this year and everyone has been very impressed by his knowledge of the game and the value he has added to the coaching team. It will definitely be a big plus to the whole club having Chris involved next year.”

Chris Henry, who has close ties with Malone having played at the club, stated: “I’m delighted to be involved with a talented young squad of players at Malone. Having been part of the club since I was 5-years-old, it has had such a huge impact on my career.

“So, there is nothing I’d like to see more than the team succeed. The role of technical advisor is a great platform for me to develop and gain experience as a coach.”

The 32-year-old Belfast native, who penned a new two-year deal with Ulster in January, was on the touchline to witness Malone’s dramatic late 21-18 victory over local rivals Queen’s University at Gibson Park last Saturday. Winger Mark O’Connor split the posts with the last kick of the game.
