Cadbury And IRFU To Host Touch Rugby Blitz In Aid Of Aware
Cadbury Boost ambassadors Alan Quinlan, Fiona Coghlan and Jordi Murphy were joined today by Dave Kearney to launch the first ever #BoostYourAwareness Touch Rugby Blitz, which will take place on Friday, May 19 at Lansdowne Rugby Club.
The day-long event, which will raise in excess of €;10,000 for Cadbury’s charity partner Aware, will see 20 teams compete in the blitz – which aims to highlight and educate participants on the importance of maintaining positive mental health, by staying active.
Throughout the day, Cadbury Boost ambassadors Jordi Murphy, Luke Fitzgerald, Alan Quinlan and Fiona Coghlan will be on hand to coach teams as they prepare for each game.
When not competing on the pitch, teams will have the opportunity to take part in a number of fun and educational activities, including Yoga and Pilates classes, strength & conditioning sessions, mental well-being talks from Aware, chill-out zones and lots more. The event will culminate with a barbeque, prize-giving ceremony and a special live broadcast of Newstalk’s ‘Off the Ball’.
Speaking at the #BoostYourAwareness launch today, Tricia Burke, Senior Brand Manager with Cadbury, said: “As an IRFU partner and proud sponsor of IRFU Touch Rugby, Cadbury is delighted to facilitate the #BoostYourAwareness Touch Rugby Blitz, with all proceeds going to Aware. On May the 19th, we’ll be taking over Lansdowne Rugby Club for an action-packed day and we want rugby players and novices alike to get involved.
“As well as games taking place throughout the day, there will be a huge amount of activity going on off the pitch, coupled with guest appearances from some very special rugby stars.
“This is an opportunity for people to take part in something very different, whilst raising money for a great cause, having some fun and hopefully learning something new – that’s what we want people to take away from this event.”
Also speaking at today’s launch, Gerry O’Brien, Head of Fundraising and Business Development with Aware, commented: “The #BoostYourAwareness Touch Rugby Blitz is a great fit for us, as it highlights many of the practices we encourage. Staying active is a great way to boost your mood and maintain your positive mental health and Touch rugby, being an all-inclusive sport, is also a great form of social inclusion – something each and every one of us needs.
“This is one of many campaigns which Cadbury runs to benefit Aware and the services we provide. Without this kind of regular funding, we would not be able to support those going through difficult times in their lives. I want to thank all those in advance who will take part in the blitz and I want to thank Cadbury for organising this great event.”
The #BoostYourAwareness Touch Rugby Blitz will host a total of 20 teams. Each team should consist of 8 to 12 players, with six players on the pitch at any one time – consisting of three female and three male players. Teams can register for the blitz at www.irishrugby.ie/touch/register.php. Entry is charged at €;500 per team, with the entry fee in full going directly to Aware. Team registration closes at 5pm on Friday, May 12.
