SAFE Rugby Courses Available Now
Our 2017/18 SAFE Rugby programme (Standard Approach to Field Emergencies in Rugby) will kick off the new season with a series of courses aimed at all those who might be required to assist at a pitchside emergency or who are involved in providing care to club and school teams at all levels.
There will be a number of level 2 courses this September held in Limerick and Dublin, which will give those involved in sports medicine an opportunity to learn some new skills in the management of pitchside emergencies or to refresh ones that they may have learned in the past. Other level 2 courses will be scheduled during the season in other venues.
The level 2 course is ideal for those general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists and other health professionals who provide their services to club and schools teams.
It is primarily practical in nature and will allow the participants get plenty of ‘hands on’ experience with all of the equipment used during the care of an injured player, while working in small groups, all under the watchful eye of one of our SAFE Rugby Instructors.
Each course will include certification from the Irish Heart Foundation in Basic Life Support and the use of an AED, as well as discussing the most up-to-date concussion management policies.
Our expert faculty members for these courses are drawn from a range of specialities including, emergency medicine, orthopaedics, anaesthesia and pre hospital care. The medical director of each course will be one of the team doctors for the local provincial team.
We are currently taking requests from clubs and schools in each province to run our very successful level 1 course in your facility. The level 1 course is designed for those with no formal medical training and is ideal for players, coaches, referees and parents.
