The Connacht squad travel to Claremorris RFC on Friday for an open training session at 9.30am. The light session will be part of the ongoing pre-season training programme ahead of the newly revamped GUINNESS PRO14 Championship.
The visit will also provide the squad with the opportunity to get out into the community and meet club players and supporters, a central theme of Connacht’s ‘Grassroots to Green Shirts’ ethos. The morning will begin with the full senior squad going through their rugby and conditioning drills on the Claremorris RFC home pitch. Following the session, the players will be available to sign autographs and have photos taken.
It will also be an opportunity for the province’s new head coach Kieran Keane to put the players through their paces having joined up with the squad earlier this week. Speaking ahead of the visit to Claremorris, Keane said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to test the players away from their regular training base in the Sportsground.
“We will do a training session in the morning and in the afternoon the players will do a team-building exercise. This will also be my first opportunity to get out into the community with my players and meet the people of Claremorris, so I am really looking forward to it.”
Commenting on the trip, Joe Gorham, Head of Club and Community at Connacht Rugby, added: “The 27 clubs in the province are central to what Connacht is about. This is an exciting opportunity for Claremorris to host the professional team as they prepare for the upcoming season. Claremorris is a fantastic club and are making great strides in the development of rugby in Mayo. I have no doubt that there will be a big turnout to meet the players on Friday.”
Connacht will play Wasps away and Bristol at home later this month in two pre-season fixtures ahead of the upcoming GUINNESS PRO14 season. Tickets for the Bristol game are on sale online here, with entry free of charge for Connacht Rugby Season Ticket holders.
