O’Halloran Cited Following Incident In Ospreys Game

A disciplinary panel will meet in Glasgow tomorrow (Thursday) to consider the citing of Connacht full-back Tiernan O’Halloran against the Ospreys in the sides’ GUINNESS PRO14 match in Swansea last Friday.

The incident occurred in the 76th minute of the round 19 fixture at the Liberty Stadium when Tiernan O’Halloran allegedly made contact to the eye or eye area of Ospreys winger Jeff Hassler.

O’Halloran, the six-times capped Ireland international, has been reported by the citing commissioner in charge for an alleged infringement of law 9.12 – a player must not make contact with the eye or eye area.

The 27-year-old will appear via video conference before a disciplinary panel comprising Rod McKenzie (chair), Bill Dunlop and Frank Hadden (all Scotland).

Meanwhile, in Connacht’s latest injury update ahead of their trip to Glasgow Warriors on Friday night, O’Halloran sustained a foot injury against the Ospreys and has been monitored by the province’s medical and performance team this week.

JP Cooney is recovering from hamstring surgery and will be out of action until May, while fellow front rower Pat O’Toole is continuing his rehabilitation for his hamstring injury under the supervision of the medical and performance team.

Andrew Browne is continuing his rehabilitation from the shoulder injury he sustained in February, as is Jake Heenan (shoulder surgery) who will be out of action until late April. Fellow back rower Sean O’Brien sustained a head injury against the Ospreys and is following the return-to-protocols.

In the backs division, Rory Scholes is progressing well following his ankle injury and will return to action in late April/early May, while Cian Kelleher is continuing his rehabilitation following his ankle surgery last month and is ruled out until May.
