Record Numbers Attend ‘Give It A Try’ Sessions
A record number of girls have turned up at venues all across Ireland to participate in the Give It A Try Girls Rugby Summer Programme.
Nearly one thousand girls have participated in the ‘Give It A Try’ sessions wiht clubs reporting record turnouts.
The girls get an introduction to the skills of rugby each week as well as playing plenty of fun games.
This weekend a number of clubs are coming together to allow the girls to meet players from other clubs and play some friendly games.
More festivals have been organised across the Provinces for the end of July, with a National Give It A Try Festival taking place in August.
Carrick On Suir RFC even played host to a news crew from RTE to celebrate their success.

Speaking about their experience Ronan Griffey from Wicklow RFC said “Over the years we have tried to recruit and grow the girl’s game in our club with a reasonable amount of success, but this new programme has grabbed the girls’ attention better than anything we’ve tried before.
This season’s Give it a Try has been a resounding success. We had 47 girls registered on our first night and 56 turn up on our second night, these numbers were beyond our wildest expectations.”
Ireland’s Women’s Sevens and Fifteens players have been visiting the clubs to meet the girls and enjoy the fun and join in with the water fights as they cool down after training!
