The IRFU have confirmed that the Ireland Club international squad are to play two games against the Scotland Clubs in February. The annual series will be contested at Myreside Stadium, Edinburgh on Friday, February 1, and Energia Park in Donnybrook on Friday, February 8.
The Ireland Club team’s last game at Energia Park was a 21-18 win over Scotland Clubs in March 2010 when future senior internationals Matt Healy, John Ryan and Robin Copeland donned the green jersey. There have been 13 games between the sides with the Ireland Club XV claiming seven wins.
Since the inaugural fixture in 2006, Ireland have played 23 Club international matches against teams from Scotland, England and France. The men in green have an overall win rate of 52% with a solitary draw against England Counties in 2009.
195 players in total have represented their clubs over the 13 seasons. Head coach Morgan Lennon and assistant coach Johne Murphy remain at the helm of the Ireland Club XV for their third year in charge.
Murphy, the current Naas player-coach, said: “We’re really enthusiastic about what’s to come in January and February. The new set-up means we can have a straight four weeks of training (with the Ireland Club XV squad) followed by back-to-back games. It’ll be a test for the lads but we’re really looking forward to it.”
The Ireland Club team’s home fixture against their Scottish counterparts will kick off at 7.30pm at Energia Park on Friday, February 8. Ticket details will be announced in due course.
