Division 1B is set for more twists and turns this weekend with four round left to play in the All-Ireland League’s regular season. Just five points separate the top four from the relegation zone, and eighth-placed Old Belvedere can shoot up the table with a win at home to Malone on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).
Andrew Kenny’s side came away from their visit to St. Mary’s College last week with a losing bonus point. It was a disappointing result after back-to-back bonus point wins but the Old Belvedere head coach is all too aware of how competitive the division is.
“There’s nobody stretching ahead. There’s no easy games in this league. Every game has been incredibly tight,” he said.
Malone won the October fixture between the sides, 39-8, at Gibson Park, but come into this game on the back of a loss at home to Buccaneers. ‘Belvo are backing themselves to perform at home with five of their six league victories this season coming at Anglesea Road.
