Sevens Uncovered: Mothers Of The Sevens

What is it like to be a mother on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series? Ahead of this weekend’s action in Canada, Ireland Sevens physio Jo Montgomery features in an insightful video from World Rugby.

Jo has been with the Ireland Sevens programme since 2015. Her daughter, Beth, is two-years-old. Jo was featured alongside New Zealand player Niall Williams and Australian referee Amy Perrett.

Speaking to World Rugby TV, Jo spoke about setting an example for her daughter:

I want her to see that being ambitious and being driven is a key quality for women and that’s why women are performing on the world stage, that’s why they are elite athletes – they have that drive and ambition. We make sacrifices but the flip side is that the time I spend with her is quality time.”
