Welcoming Clubs Toolkit Now Available

A new Welcoming Clubs Toolkit is available to clubs for the 2019/20 season.

The toolkit is a pocket sized wallet card with touchline tips on best practice for coaches and volunteers working with boys and girls that are new to the game of rugby.

The toolkit covers the following areas:

  • Coaches Rugby Responsibilities
  • Supervision & Safety
  • Playing & Training Areas
  • Social Media
  • Club Standards
  • Safeguarding
  • Getting Involved

Distribution to clubs begins this week with toolkits available from Community Rugby Officers.

They will also be available from Club and Community Rugby Officers. If a club would like to receive a batch of Welcoming Clubs Toolkits directly they can email here.

“This is an initiative we’ve been looking to bring to life for some time,” said IRFU Rugby Programmes Officer Colm Finnegan.

“We’re already seeing a new influx of players to clubs across the provinces this season, particularly to the mini rugby programmes. The Rugby World Cup is generating a huge amount of interest, but it’s important that new players are given the appropriate welcome to clubs and can avail of good practice in coaching and safeguarding.

The Welcoming Clubs Toolkit will definitely help with this. It’s a practical aid for coaches of children and a reminder to everyone – it’s their game, let them play.”

Irish Rugby TV went to Monaghan RFC to see the toolkit in action. The video above shows both what the toolkit and a welcoming club look like.
