IRFU Launch Survey Aimed At People With Visual/Hearing Impairment

In recent seasons the growth of disability, inclusive and mixed ability teams has allowed more and more people to enjoy rugby.

The IRFU has employed a Disability & Inclusion officer, under the Spirit of Irish Rugby programme to support clubs in their efforts to bring rugby to as many of their community as possible.

David McKay’s role is to implement the Disability Framework and support clubs, across all 4 provinces, to be more inclusive.

David has launched a new survey to hear from those who have visual and/or hearing impairments. This will help the IRFU in determining the appetite for new types of rugby teams, taking into consideration things like the number of players to facilitate, most appropriate methods of play and locations to base teams.

The target is to make the game as accessible to as many potential players as possible.

The survey can be found here and will only take a few minutes to fill in.

The survey has been shared with Vision Sports Ireland  – the National Governing Body for sport and leisure activities for vision impaired people in Ireland – who will also have a paper copy available to clients.

For an outline of the framework and list of clubs currently offering disability sections, please visit the Spirit of Rugby section of the site here.

For more information on the supports available or if you have any queries regarding this or any other aspects of disability and inclusion work or want your club to be involved, please contact the IRFU Disability & Inclusion Officer David McKay here.
