Four-Try Ugwueru In Blistering Form For Unbeaten UL Bohs

Chisom Ugwueru lit up the Energia All-Ireland League Women’s Division last weekend with a fantastic four-try performance for leaders UL Bohemians at home to Blackrock College.

Ugwueru, who only turns 21 next month, made the switch from Railway Union to UL Bohs during the summer, and is marking herself out as the league’s winger to watch so far this season.

The Ennis flyer already has nine tries to her name, having touched down in four successive games against Galwegians (2), Suttonians, Cooke (2), and defending champions Blackrock (4).

A recent starter for Munster against the Barbarians, she produced a series of confident finishes against ‘Rock at Annacotty. Her third try was the best of the lot as she burst clear from her own 22 and outpaced a number of defenders on the outside to cross in the left corner.

The 29-10 win was the Red Robins’ fifth straight bonus point victory, and young out-half Kate Flannery landed two conversions to remain the division’s top points scorer (49 points).

Railway Union’s Nikki Caughey split the posts three times against Ballincollig to take her season’s haul to 38 points. Her team-mate Aimee Clarke claimed her fifth try of the campaign, drawing her level with Blackrock’s Beth Cregan.

Ugwueru is well out in front in the try-scoring stakes, now just a try short of matching Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe’s 10-try tally for Railway last season. The previous year saw Michelle Claffey, Blackrock’s then captain, score a dozen tries.
