Wingers Bowen And Sexton Add To Try Tallies In Division 1A

Heading into the final round of the regular season, three players have scored more than 100 points in Energia All-Ireland League Men’s Division 1A, while Clontarf captain Dylan Donnellan tops the try-scoring charts with 19 tries.

With Donnellan held scoreless by Terenure College last week, and Michael Moloney, the division’s leading points scorer with 178 points, missing UCD’s Colours match against Dublin University, it is as you were.

Cork Constitution winger Matthew Bowen and Ballynahinch’s Ulster ace Aaron Sexton did gain ground in the try-scoring stakes, running in their 12th and 10th tries respectively when their sides clashed at Temple Hill.

With Cork Con now occupying the second home semi-final berth, Bowen has really come into form with eight tries registered in his last four games.

Lansdowne guaranteed their place in the semi-finals by piling on the points at home to City of Armagh. They racked up nine tries and 64 points, with hooker Tom Barry’s brace taking him to eight tries for the campaign, a tally matched by centres Andy Marks and Rory Parata.

Leinster Academy out-half Charlie Tector finished with a handsome 19-point haul for the headquarters club, made up of eight conversions and a penalty.

Shannon’s Mike Cooke split the posts with 12 points during their derby victory over Young Munster, while his Terenure College counterpart, Aran Egan, kicked 14 points as they got the better of leaders Clontarf.

Cork Con’s James Taylor (131) and Clontarf number 10 Conor Kelly (127) (pictured below) are the closest challengers to Moloney, with prolific try scorer Donnellan, Stephen Madigan, Conor Rankin, and Cooke all closing in on the century mark.
