Highlights: Ireland Suffer Heavy Twickenham Defeat

Ireland’s lineout maul forced a 55th-minute penalty try, briefly breaking up England’s momentum, but the clinical Guinness Women’s Six Nations leaders stormed their way to an 88-10 win at Twickenham Stadium.

Although the Irish fans made their presence felt amongst the 48,778-strong crowd, Scott Bemand’s side were fighting a losing battle on the pitch as they fell 38-3 behind by half-time.

A Dannah O’Brien penalty was added to by the pack’s hard graft in earning the penalty try, before England finished with six more scores. Ireland will regroup quickly before hosting Scotland at Kingspan Stadium next Saturday – tickets are available here.

Speaking ahead of the final round clash, Ireland head coach Bemand said: “A tough day at the office, but where the group was, where they are moving towards, we’ll take our learnings.

“We’re either winning or learning, they are an honest group. We’ll work hard at it. We’ve got a really big game to get excited about next week (against Scotland).

“The momentum we’ve gained from a month in camp and games previous to this doesn’t dissipate in one performance. We’ve come up against England, the market leaders at the minute in world rugby. We’ll learn from it.

“We’ve got a great opportunity next week, so we’ll front-foot it and fix up the bits we need to, and we’ll go after the relevant pieces of the game next week. We’ve come second best today but we won’t dwell on it long.”
