The first leg of the HSBC SVNS Series gets underway in Dubai this weekend with the Ireland Men’s and Women’s 7s sides back in action.

The series features the 12 best men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams, including men’s Olympic medalists France, Fiji and South Africa and women’s Olympic medalists New Zealand, Canada and USA. There will also be some newcomers to HSBC SVNS for 2025, with China women and Kenya and Uruguay men joining the series after winning promotion from the Challenger Series at the end of last season.

The Women’s team are up first against Fiji at 5:44am on Saturday morning followed at 6:28am by the Men taking on Great Britain. The matches will be available on TNT Sports and RugbyPass in Ireland and the UK – click here for a full list of where to watch around the world.

Team News

There are some new names in both squads for this weekend alongside some familiar faces. Fresh from her World Rugby Breakthrough 15s Player of the Year award Erin King returns to the 7s squad alongside the likes of Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, Stacey Flood and Eve Higgins. They are joined by Robyn O’Connor who lined out for the Ireland U20s and started in the Vodafone Women’s Interpro Series earlier this season, and Hannah Clarke, another Ireland U20 player who featured for Connacht in the interpros.

In the Men’s squad stalwarts like Jordan Conroy, Hugo Lennox and Mark Roche are joined by newcomers Nicky Greene and James Dillon who both got their first experience of senior international Sevens rugby at the Makarska Sevens in Croatia in Rugby Europe 7s.
