The HBF Stadium in Perth played host to Round 3 of the HSBC SVNS from January 24-26. The Ireland Men’s and Women’s teams have a new look this season with several young players coming into both squads.
Ireland Women finished last in their Pool losing to New Zealand, Japan and Brazil, putting them into a 9th place playoff against Fiji which they lost 24-7. That left them facing Spain in the 11th place playoff. There was disappointment in that game with a 12-24 loss. The Women’s side sit in 8th place in the overall standings.
The Ireland Men’s side are still in 12th overall following their 11th place finish in Perth. IN a difficult Pool they lost to Olympic Champions France, Spain and Great Britain. They came up against New Zealand in the 9th place playoff, losing 42-5. They finished the tournament with a narrow 19-17 win over USA.
