IRFU Tag Rugby Kicks Off At Newforge
The 2007 IRFU Adult Tag Rugby season got off to a great start on Wednesday at Newforge with a large number of teams turning out despite some bad weather.
The Tag league boasts over 800 participants and will run for nine with an impressive 70 teams signing up this year, an increase on last year’s 64.
The Tag league will take place every Wednesday and Thursday night at Newforge with games at 7.00pm, 7.45pm and 8.30pm. This year has also seen fantastic support from local referees with 24 coming along to lend a hand, many of them new faces to Tag rugby who are at a very high standard. A great social aspect goes hand in hand with the adult Tag with entertainment and food organised for each night, including barbecues, quizzes, prizes, bands and karaoke.
This year has seen a big increase in the number of social sides taking part as well as the usual men’s teams. Teams come from a variety of backgrounds including banks, accountancy firms, Young Farmers clubs and many more have all signed up for this fun programme.
Newforge Social Nights:
Thursday, June 7 – Quiz
Wednesday, June 13 – Karaoke
Thursday, June 21 – Karaoke
Final week – Late bar and barbecue
While places for Newforge have closed, City Of Derry RFC are also in the process of getting their Adult Tag Programme off the ground. Five teams have signed up already but there is still room for more teams and referees. It will also run for nine weeks, starting at 7pm on Thursdays and plenty of social nights are also in the pipeline.
The City of Derry Adult Tag will kick off on Thursday, May 31 so get your team signed up asap. For more information, please contact Jonathan Quigley (Venue Manager) on 0773 664 7024 or email: quigleyjonathan@hotmail.com.
