Top Class Presenters At IRFU Conditioning Courses
The 2008 Certified Conditioning Programme was launched with 61 coaches taking part in two successful week long courses in Belfast and Limerick. Twenty one coaches attended the course in the University of Ulster, Jordanstown and 40 coaches took part in the course in Castletroy College, Limerick.
The week-long courses are just one part of a programme with the purpose of providing support in terms of education – both theoretical and practical – to the coach who wishes to develop his or her confidence and competence in delivering a structured conditioning programme to players in the amateur game.
The IRFU is still the only rugby union to run a certified conditioning course.
One of the highlights of the course was Trevor Brennan giving an insight into the Stade Toulouse player development system and Gil Stevenson (Chairman of the UKSCA) presenting on long term physical development.
The week proved to be very enjoyable with coaches and presenters mixing well during the two weeks and many contacts made between coaches and presenters for future development.
