Andrews Joins Ballymena As Coach
Ballymena RFC have announced the appointment of John Andrews as their new head coach. Andrews, a former Ballymena player, has been with Dungannon for the past two seasons and has also had a spell at Rainey Old Boys.
Ballymena RFC are to intensify their focus on local player development. With this in mind, upwards of 20 young quality players have been recruited for next season, all of whom would have the ability to play first team rugby.
John Andrews’ work with Ballymena Academy will continue to help identify potentially good young players and hence assist in the club’s long term player development plan.
Commenting on Andrews’ appointment at Ballymena, club Chairman Ray Buchanan said: “We welcome the arrival of John and are delighted to have a local man with strong school contacts that will enable us to carry through our plan of development on young local talent.”
Ballymena finished 13th in AIB League Division One this season and are placed in Division One Section B for next season alongside fellow Ulster club Dungannon and the newly-promoted Ballynahinch.
John Andrews says he is looking forward to the challenge of competing for a place in Division One Section A of the AIB League and to working with a group of ‘exciting, able and committed young players.’
