Trinity Crowned All-Ireland Club Sevens Champions
Dublin University were crowned the first ever IRFU All-Ireland Club Sevens champions, winning at Templeville Road along with UL Bohemians who claimed the Women’s title.
Also on the winners’ podium were Division 1 Plate champions Garryowen, Division 2 winners Coolmine, Division 2 Plate winners Monivea and Women’s Plate champions Belfast Harlequins.
In tough conditions with strong winds and showers thrown into the mix, the day’s games saw clubs from all over Ireland take each on in groups and then play-offs for the each of the five trophy competitions.
Dublin University and UL Bohemians will now go on to represent Ireland clubs next August in Copenhagen at the Scandinavian Open Sevens having today won the Senior Men and Women’s competitions respectively.
The Junior Cup champions Coolmine, following on from winning the Leinster Junior Club Sevens crown last weekend, will not only be VIP guests at the Ireland v England Guinness Series game at the Aviva Stadium in August but will also attend the official pre-match and post-match functions.
In the Division 1 semi-finals, the Trinity students beat City of Derry 21-7 and Old Belvedere overcame UL Bohemians with a golden try in extra-time.
Earlier in the Women’s semi-finals, host club St. Mary’s College toppled Old Belvedere by 43 points to face up against UL Bohs who beat a spirited Galwegians side 19-0.
