Gibney Confirmed As Bective’s New Coach

Bective Rangers FC have announced Barry Gibney as their new head coach, with fellow former Ireland Under-21 international Barry Lynn assisting him.

Former flanker Barry Gibney, who made his Leinster debut in 1998 at the age of 20, will take over the coaching reins at the Donnybrook-based club.

He represented Blackrock College, Ireland Schools and Under-21s and Leinster in a playing career that was unfortunately cut short due to injury.

Gibney entered coaching at at an early age with Blackrock College RFC and now with over six years’ coaching experience in Division 1 of the All-Ireland League, he will be warmly welcomed at Bective Rangers.

Barry Lynn will assist Gibney as Bective’s backs coach as they look to improve on their recent campaign which saw them finish 11th in Division 2A of the league.

Lynn won several international caps for Ireland Youths, Under-19s and Under-21s. He represented Ireland in the Under-21 World Cup in South Africa in 2002.

He won a scholarship to UCD where he won a McCorry Cup, and moved to St. Mary’s College where he was to spend eight years winning another McCorry Cup and Leinster Senior Cup. He captained the club in 2006.

Bective’s players and members turned out last Friday to hear Gibney outline his plans for next season. There is real excitement about the club’s potential for the coming years.
