Ulster Bank All-Ireland Junior Cup Draw

Ulster Bank All-Ireland Junior Cup Draw

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Ulster Bank All-Ireland Junior Cup has been made with cup holders Enniscorthy drawn away to a Bangor team that ended Clonmel’s two-year unbeaten home record.

The quarter-final draw was made this morning at the IRFU Committee meeting and there are some interesting match-ups in prospect.

Bangor’s reward for their last-gasp win over Clonmel is a home clash with defending champions Enniscorthy who beat another Ulster club, Portadown, in the opening round thanks to four tries from flying winger Ivan Jacob.

Clogher Valley, with their pack in fine form, have been drawn at home again having overcome Clondalkin in the first round. They face Connemara in the last-eight – the Co. Galway club are enjoying a good run of results at present and pipped St. Mary’s 29-27 last Saturday.

Newcastle West will entertain Dundalk at the quarter-final stage. They were two of the big scorers in the first round with try hat-tricks from James and Stephen Kelly helping Newcastle West thump OLBC 64-12, while Leinster League leaders Dundalk had six different try scorers in their 51-8 dismissal of Cobh Pirates.

Meanwhile, Dublin challengers Coolmine will host CIYMS in another fascinating quarter-final tie. The Belfast visitors, captained by Gavin Woods, are brimming with confidence after seeing off Ballinasloe 37-10 in their cup opener.
