Faloon: There’s Definitely Added Spice To Interpros
Willie Faloon insists that Ulster will have to physically dominate Munster if they are to come away from Thomond Park with a win in Friday night’s eagerly-awaited GUINNESS PRO12 derby.
Neil Doak’s men registered their third bonus point win of the season at Kingspan Stadium, with a 24-17 success against Cardiff Blues. But the squad is now fully focused on replicating that form on the road.
“The home form is up there, you can’t argue with three bonus point wins,” admitted flanker Willie Faloon. “Obviously we’d like our away form to be better, especially going into a tough test against Munster. Friday night hopefully gives us a good opportunity to put that into action.”
Reflecting on the recent away defeats to the Scarlets and Edinburgh, the 29-year-old said: “We haven’t had the killer instinct to go ahead and get points from good positions, we’ve just gone through the motions a bit. The other thing is that you can’t win games if you’re giving away penalties, you lose momentum. Especially this weekend, our discipline has to be first class.”
Faloon and his Ulster team-mates know the Munster players, both individually and collectively, as well as any other side in the league, so they have an idea of what to expect at Thomond Park.
“They’ll be typically aggressive and physical and they are going to want to beat us up a bit. It’s an interpro at the end of the day and that’s what we’ve come to expect from these types of games.
“It was the same when I was playing for Connacht. You don’t have any problems getting up for interpros, you just want to get stuck in and play against guys you know well. There is definitely added spice.”
Having ended his three-year spell with Connacht at the end of last season, Faloon is back in Belfast and is working hard to continue his development.
“It’s been really good to be back here. It’s taken me a bit of time to get back into the run of things again and playing with certain players again, but I’m enjoying it and hopefully I’ll get better with each run-out,” he added.
