Ireland number 8 Denis Leamy has been cited for an alleged stamping incident during Saturday’s RBS 6 Nations win over Italy at Lansdowne Road.
Leamy faces a hearing in London on Wednesday following his alleged use of the boot on Italian scrum half Paul Griffen.
Independent match commissioner Rob Flockhart took until Monday afternoon, until his alloted time was up, to cite Leamy, but Ireland captain Brian O’Driscoll has escaped possible punishment for an alleged stamp on Italian hooker Fabio Ongaro.
Flockhart, using new IRB regulation 17.9.14, which extend the time available for commissioners to make a decision, is yet to confirm whether an Italian player (replacement prop Martin Castrogiovanni) has a case to answer following an alleged bite on the arm of Ireland flanker Simon Easterby.
Easterby was left with – what coach Eddie O’Sullivan termed – “a substantial mark” on his arm after an incident late on in Saturday’s match.
The IRB regulations permit further investigation to identify the player concerned in circumstances where a player has not been cited within the 50-hour time frame after a match.
