The stalemate at Stradey Park means the title race goes down to the final weekend with Ulster (71 points) two points clear of Leinster. Afterwards, Ulster coach Mark McCall said: “The League’s still very much in our own hands. I was very pleased with the effort shown by the players – some of our defensive play was heroic when the Scarlets were pressing on our line in the second half.

“It was a tough, tough match. We struggled to get hands on the ball in the second half, but we definitely did enough to get something out of the game. (With the Ospreys up next) we can come back to Wales in a positive fashion.”

Andrew Trimble is tackled by Scarlets winger Garan Evans in the lead-up to Ulster’s second try from Andrew Maxwell (24 minutes).

David Humphreys is taken off after sustaining a cut above his right eye shortly before half-time at Stradey Park. The Ulster out-half returned, stitched and bandaged, for the second half but three late drop goal misses blighted his performance.

Ulster centre Andrew Trimble, who was one of the province’s better performers on the night, takes on the Llanelli defence.

A searing break from Andrew Trimble almost saw Andrew Maxwell get in for his second try in the second half but Garan Evans’ tackle forced Maxwell, who was named in the Ireland ‘A’ Churchill Cup squad this week, to knock the ball on with the try line in sight.
