Four-Try Ireland Beat Brazil To Secure 11th Place Finish

Four-Try Ireland Beat Brazil To Secure 11th Place Finish

Eve Higgins

Eve Higgins scored one of Ireland's tries against Brazil.

It was important Ireland Women finished the tournament on a winning note, and Stan McDowell‘s side duly responded to run four tries past Brazil and record an 11th-place finish at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series leg in Cape Town.

After slipping to Pool defeats to USA, Australia and England, Ireland were desperate to produce a big performance in Sunday’s play-off at Cape Town Stadium and a 26-7 defeat of Brazil gives grounds for optimism heading into the January and February double-header in Hamilton and Sydney.

Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe set Ireland on their way here with a trademark break and finish down the left and while Brazil hit back through Leila Dos Santos Silva, McDowell’s side were able to find another gear as Louise Galvin crossed either side of the break.
