Ireland Sevens Squads Enjoy Open Day Ahead Of Paris Challenge

The Ireland Sevens squads, part of Team Ireland, hosted an open training session at the IRFU High Performance Centre for family and friends, before they depart for their pre-Olympic training camp in Tours.

The two squads will train at the base in the Loire Valley city, which was used by the Ireland Men’s team during the Rugby World Cup last year.

Meanwhile, the Rugby Sevens match schedule for the Olympics in Paris was announced yesterday.

The Ireland Men will kick off their campaign against South Africa at the Stade de France on Wedenesday, July 24 at 4.30pm Irish time.

James Topping’s side will be action again later that day, playing Japan at 8pm. Day two will see them face New Zealand in their final Pool A game before the play-off and medal matches begin.

Coached by Allan Temple-Jones, the Ireland Women get their first Olympics under way on Sunday, July 28 when they play Great Britain at 2.30pm Irish time. They will also face South Africa at 6pm, before day two sees them complete their Pool B fixtures against Australia.
