Ireland’s Win Over England The Highlight At Twickenham

The Ireland Men’s Sevens team, sponsored by TritonLake, ended up with a sixth place finish at the HSBC London Sevens after losing their final game 14-5 to South Africa.

An exciting weekend at Twickenham Stadium saw James Topping’s men post wins over Kenya (17-14), Argentina (22-21) and hosts England (36-12), while there were defeats to eventual silver medallists New Zealand and the Blitzboks, who lead the World Series rankings.

The in-form Terry Kennedy topped the tournament’s try-scoring charts with eight tries, boosting his season’s haul to 47. With one round remaining, he is the series’ top try scorer, nine clear of his closest rivals.

Leinster Academy youngster Andrew Smith unfortunately picked up an ankle injury on day one, but other players stepped up in his absence, including IQ Rugby’s Fergus Jemphrey who made four starts and scored his first World Series try.
