Ireland See Off South Africa To Open Olympic Win Account

Recovering from captain Lucy Mulhall Rock’s injury-enforced departure, the Ireland Women’s Sevens team went up through the gears in the second half to secure a 38-0 win over South Africa.

The result was a timely boost at the end of day one at the Stade France, moving Ireland level on four points with second-placed Great Britain in Pool B.

Ireland Sevens – Where To Watch The Olympic Games

Allan Temple-Jones’s charges complete their pool run against leaders Australia on Monday afternoon (kick-off 1.30pm Irish time – live on RTÉ 2/RTÉ Player/Eurosport via Discovery Plus).

The top two teams in each pool, plus the best two sides placed third across the pools, qualify for Monday evening’s quarter-finals.

On the Ireland Women’s Olympic debut, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe had led the try-scoring with three tries so far, followed by Béibhinn Parsons who bagged a brace against South Africa.
