Chris Busby

High Performance Referee

Background: Played rugby in school (Ballyclare High), and my local rugby club (Ballyclare HS) before a run of injuries eventually led to me picking up the whistle in 2010.

Name: Chris Busby

Born: Belfast

Energia AIL Debut: September2015, Sunday Well v Greystones AIL 2B

PRO Debut: October 2020, Dragons v Zebre

European Debut: December 2020, Agen v London Irish

International Debut: February 2021, Spain v Portugal

Milestones: Summer International Referee South Africa v Wales, Assistant Referee RWC France 2023, Assistant Referee 6N (Debut Wales vs Scotland Feb 2022), Champions Cup Debut Wasps vs Toulouse Jan 2022),

Your Advice: It’s no secret that being a referee, at any level, can be a tough job. The best advice I was ever given was to use the tougher days at the office as an opportunity to learn and get better, rather than stressing out about decisions which you might have gotten wrong.
