BKT United Rugby Championship: Round 3 Highlights

Three of the top four positions in the BKT United Rugby Championship table are occupied by Irish provinces. The conditions in round 3 ranged from the 25 degree heat and altitude in Pretoria to the heavy wind and rain in Cork.

SCARLETS 23 CONNACHT 24

Cathal Forde’s coolly-struck 77th-minute penalty saw Connacht come out on top in Llanelli. They crossed the whitewash three times in the first half, including an early try of the season contender from Ben Murphy.

VODACOM BULLS 47 ULSTER 21

A youthful Ulster team took a lot out of this tough encounter with the Vodacom Bulls. Despite the defeat, it was a memorable day for centre Ben Carson who marked his first start with a try, and Jacob Stockdale also scored a cracker from inside his own half.

BENETTON 5 LEINSTER 35

BKT United Rugby Championship leaders Leinster made it three bonus point wins on the trot, with Ciarán Frawley finishing off a terrific team try, and Ireland Sevens Olympian Hugo Keenan returning at full-back.

MUNSTER 23 OSPREYS 0

Academy winger Shay McCarthy got the ball rolling for Munster after just 10 seconds, scoring the fastest try in URC history. The hosts notched four tries at a rain-lashed Virgin Media Park, and kept the Ospreys scoreless late on.
