The Ireland squad kicked off their warm weather training camp in Quinta do Lago on Thursday with a tough day of training.
We spoke to Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Ciaran Ruddock and Munster and Ireland’s Tadhg Beirne about a day described as ‘physical, tiring and hot.’
There was an early start as the players looked to get active and continue their recovery from the game against Italy and from the flight on Wednesday evening.
Working in units the forwards and backs alternated between activation work, rugby and strength and conditioning in the first part of the day.
A break from the sun, a chance to rest and top up on the sun cream and it was back on the pitch for a high intensity rugby conditioning session in the afternoon.
Friday is a rest day for the players before they return to training on Saturday morning for another tough session.
