Reigning champions Munster open their IRFU Women’s Interprovincial Championship title defence against Connacht at Irish Independent Park on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm). We spoke to captains Fiona Hayes and Grainne Egan ahead of the game.
Speaking at the launch of the 2018/19 Women’s Interpros, Munster co-captain Fiona Hayes said: “Every year I think every team is the one to beat. Connacht caught us last year but we have them in Irish Independent Park this year. We want to hold onto this cup.”
Grainne Egan, the Connacht skipper, spoke about the challenges of the tournament, which runs over the next three weekends. She said: “Each game is like a cup game but we’re happy to face Munster first and we’re really looking forward to it.”
