‘A whirlwind few days’ is how Jordi Murphy describes his call-up to Ireland’s Rugby World Cup squad and his inclusion in the team to play Russia on Thursday.
We caught up with the Ulster back rower after his first hit-out in Japan, which included an opposed training session with local side Kobelco Steelers and a visit from a local school.
Speaking about fractured foot victim Jack Conan, the player he replaced in the Ireland squad, Murphy told Irish Rugby TV:
I spoke to Jack straight away, said I was sorry for him and wished him a speedy recovery. Like Jack would be, his reply was, ‘best of luck, hope you smash it’, and he was delighted for me.”
